Advice for buying computer fair routers?

Hello all. I'm in the market for a simple ethernet switch/router. I
don't need wifi, just something that can manage my iBurst modem (PPPoE)
and play friendly with my linux boxes. If I can get one that can run
some services that would be a plus.

I know at least some of you go to the computer fairs. So I'm asking if
anybody has had any good or bad experiences with the cheap routers
there, or are there particularly good ones to be found elsewhere?
