mythtv to view local video files

hello
i have a server with many video files on it.
i installed a mythtv backend on this server to view the files from the
client
now my question: how do i configure mythtv not for viewing tv but for
viewing the video files from the server on my frontend?
i really searched for that, but i havent found anything at all.
