Samba-3.0.23c kernel lock problems with new Redhat kernel 2.6.9-42.0.8

Samba server: RHEL4 (32-bit Intel Xeon 2.4 GHz).
NFS server: RHEL3 (32-bit Intel Xeon 2.8 GHz).
The RHEL servers are fully patched.
Please note that the problem was introduced by a kernel upgrade
on the Samba RHEL4 server.
