SOAP is not rocket science, of course, I'm just contrasting it with
XML-RPC. Take a look at What
do you mean by SOAP encoding?, for example. Yes, IP-based PBXs are
plenty complicated :).

(Not being critical - I'm sure there were constraints and
dependancies in the code base that made it difficult to make a switch
