Why has Tomcat Undeployed my Applications?

Hi

I am running Tomcat 5.5 and Tapestry on windows. I store my eclipse workspaces and the application files on another server (Linux). I deploy my xml configuration files in:
C:\Tomcat\conf\Catalina\localhost

When the Linux server was rebooted, Tomcat subsequently undeployed all my applications, is there a reason for this? I am a bit lost, and no expert using Tomcat.does Tomcat backup the files anywhere? They are no longer in the directory.

Any help would be much appreciated!
