Well, I am not amused. KNC claim their card works under Linux and they even
point to a very old driver (for a 2.2 kernel). But on
http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Terratec_Cinergy_1200_DVB-S_budget/Typhoon/KNC1_DVB-S_budget
I have found the following:
There seems to be a new revision of the Typhoon/KNC1 DVB-S with new Tuner
SU1278/SH-2 aka KNC Plus. The new version of the KNC card apparently uses
"KNC One" (0x1894) as PCI Vendor ID instead of "Philips" (0x1131).
Kernels up to 2.6.15 do not recognize it, 2.6.16-rc4 does. However I haven't
got it to work properly yet. Kernel sees it and everything, but it
permanently (like every second) loses LOCK und thus reception. The card works
fine under Win XP, so it's not the card or reception that's broken...
After some research on the web and by mail, it turns out that the TUA 6100
used on the card is not really properly supported by Linux. The values that
get programmed into it by the Linux driver will need a lot of finetuning
before this card will work properly.
So this seems to be a tougher thing than I had bargained for. I intend
complaining to KNC, at least. Right now I got the newest kernel I could get
and I'll look into these things a bit further ...
Still, any help appreciated. I'll keep you posted.
Cheers
Edi
