My fault, I forgot I put in a link to a specific version. Otherwise I'd 
replied with the updated link. Sorry.

Yes, I agree. Next kernel :-) I have similar problems with the 'G' 
family where mono also stays at stereo, this time thanks to the msp 
hardware. Which leads to the strange effect that in a bilingual 
transmission the stereo mode gives only LANG1, but the mono mode gives 
me LANG1_LANG2, not quite what you'd expect.

The only other audio chip I've worked on is the cx25840, and I much 
prefer the msp3400. Warts and all. Actually, the msp chips are quite 
powerful, it's just that the linux driver was so bad. It's now much 
improved and can be improved still further.
