Can VIDIOC_S_FMT modify the frame rate previously set by VIDIOC_S_PARM ?

Hi everybody,
I was wondering if VIDIOC_S_FMT is allowed to modify the frame rate previously
set by VIDIOC_S_PARM.
>From the V4L2 API:
"Changing the video standard (also implicitly by switching the video input)
may reset this parameter to the nominal frame period. To reset manually
applications can just set this ïeld to zero."
Does this apply to changing the image format and/or size as well ? If so, this
should be clarified in the doc. If not, what happens when the user selects a
new image size for which the hardware doesn't support the previously selected
frame rate ?
