Higher v4l resolution?

Greetings,
The Hauppauge WinTV Radio card I just bought claims to support
resolutions up to 1600x1200, but as far as I can tell, freevo and/or
v4l can only display or capture about half that (something like
768x576, I believe). Is that correct? At what layer does this
limitation live (i.e., freevo, v4l libraries, v4l kernel modules,
somewhere else), and are there any plans in the works to increase the
maximum resolution that can be handled?
Incidentally, since I assume that many of the people who've done work
on v4l are on this list, I want to thank you very much for all the
work you've put into making this work. It is very cool to be able to
watch and record television on my linux box :-).
Thanks,
jik
