em28xx USB and closed captions?

Allow me to un-hijack my thread.
I'm trying zapping and tvtime to get closed captions (can't even get
video in zapping) and I keep getting an error that /dev/vbi0 is in use
or "can't be opened twice". All I need is the captions. I don't even
care about the video. I tried to use zvbi-ntsc-cc to get captions with
the following results:
[cyrus (at) localhost ~]$ zvbi-ntsc-cc -c -p -d /dev/vbi0
Cannot capture vbi data with v4l2 interface:
/dev/vbi0 (Hauppauge WinTV USB 2) is not a raw vbi device.
Will try v4l.

Has anyone had success with an em28xx device and closed captions?
