One of my clients has a web host that only allows pop-before-smtp mail
authentication when using their SMTP server.  I know I could use the "mail" or
"sendmail" options in the Mail Module config, but I have concerns that mail sent
from these would be treated as spam.  So I would like to request pop-before-smtp
be added.

I know phpmailer doesn't support this.  So maybe another utility could be found?
 I actually hacked the Mail Module to integrate Manuel Lemos's POP3 class
(http://phpclasses.promoxy.com/browse/package/2.html; BSD license).  My diff's
are attached.

Also, I just found a project where someone added this feature to PHPMailer.  See
http://www.corephp.co.uk/archives/18-POP-before-SMTP-Authentication-for-PHPMailer.html.
 I haven't tested it, but it could be promising.

Or maybe persuade the PHPMailer project to add this?
