To be honest, I think it is better practise to make a backup before you do any
upgrading of sites, modules or Xar.

Also, at upgrade the module might need to be reinitialised, but this should not
harm the data in any way. If this is the case in any module, please specify this
bug to that module, like AndyV suggested.
