dialtone detection without call

Hi,

I've seen the subject of dialtone detection come up more than a couple of times here... so please bear with me.

I would like to try and detect what lines a voice card (i.e. D/4PCI) actually has connected to valid phone lines during an installsheild install (DLL mappings ala VB).

I've seen a few snipits of code here and there that uses dx_dial() with a string of “L “ and call analysis to do similar things. Nothing I’ve seen or tried yet seems particularly satisfactory.

Many of the examples are incomplete, seem fragile when in synchronous mode or are more complicated than I would like for the DLL mapping when not. Also the above technique tends to take several seconds to return confirmation on success…

Does anyone have any suggestions (code fragments welcomed)…
