Since the libraries are in C, how do you use them in Java development? Do you use JNI to create a "wrapper" around all the C functions? If so, is that code publicly available so that we don't have to "reinvent the wheel"?

I have read about an open source initiative called Bayonne, but I am not sure where that fits into the picture.
